- 1 Bits = 0.125 Bytes
Convert bits to bytes, the step you need when a network speed is quoted in bits but a file size is in bytes. Kilobytes are included so you can scale up from small values.
How this is calculated
One byte is 8 bits, so bits are divided by 8 to get bytes. Decimal units are used above the byte, so one kilobyte is 1000 bytes.
How to use
- Enter the number of bits.
- Keep bits to bytes, or press Swap for bytes to bits.
- Read the result in bytes.
Examples
- One byte:
8 bit = 1 B - A kilobyte:
8000 bit = 1000 B - Bytes to bits:
1 B = 8 bit
FAQ
- How many bits are in a byte?
- There are 8 bits in one byte.
- Why are download speeds in bits?
- Network speeds are usually measured in bits per second, while files are measured in bytes, so an 8 megabit link moves about 1 megabyte per second.
