Data Transfer Rate Converter
Convert data transfer rates between bps, kbps, Mbps, Gbps, and byte rates like MB/s.
Calculator by Toolsloft ↗- Result
- 12.5 Megabytes per second (MB/s)
- Conversion
- 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) = 12.5 Megabytes per second (MB/s)
Convert data transfer rates between bits and bytes per second, the conversion that clears up why a 100 Mbps connection downloads at about 12.5 MB/s. Enter the rate and pick the units for both sides.
How this is calculated
Bits per second is the base. Kilo, mega, giga, and tera bit rates step in powers of 1000. One byte is 8 bits, so byte rates multiply by 8, and binary byte rates like MiB/s use powers of 1024 times 8 bits.
How to use
- Enter the transfer rate.
- Choose the unit you are converting from.
- Choose the unit you want and read the result.
Examples
- A 100 Mbps line:
100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s - Gigabit:
1000 Mbps = 1 Gbps
FAQ
- Why is 100 Mbps only 12.5 MB/s?
- Because a byte is 8 bits. Network speeds are quoted in megabits, but file sizes are in megabytes, so you divide by 8.
- What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
- Mbps is megabits per second and MB/s is megabytes per second. One MB/s equals 8 Mbps.
