When someone weighs well above their ideal weight, using actual weight can overshoot certain drug and nutrition calculations. Adjusted body weight bridges the two by adding a fraction of the excess to the ideal weight. This tool reports both the Devine ideal weight and the adjusted figure.
How this is calculated
Ideal body weight uses the Devine formula: 50 kg for men or 45.5 kg for women, plus 2.3 kg for each inch of height over 60 inches. Adjusted body weight adds 40 percent of the difference between actual and ideal weight to the ideal weight, the standard correction factor used in clinical practice.
