This calculator adds VAT to a net price or strips VAT out of a gross price, and shows the tax amount either way. Use it for invoicing, pricing, and checking receipts in countries that charge value added tax.
How this is calculated
To add VAT, the gross price is the net price times one plus the rate as a decimal. To remove VAT, the net price is the gross price divided by one plus the rate. The VAT amount is the difference between gross and net.

FAQ
- What is the difference between adding and removing VAT?
- Adding VAT starts from a net price and works out the gross price a customer pays. Removing VAT starts from a gross price and works back to the net price plus the tax already included.
- How do I find the VAT portion of a gross price?
- Divide the gross price by one plus the rate as a decimal to get the net price, then subtract that from the gross. For example, at 20% a gross of $120 gives a net of $100 and $20 of VAT.
