Subtract a number of days from a date to find an earlier date and its weekday. Handy for working back from a deadline, a due date, or an event to know when to start. It steps back across months and years correctly.
How this is calculated
The start date is read as a calendar day, then the number of days is subtracted, rolling back across month and year boundaries. Leap years are handled, so a count that crosses February 29 lands on the correct earlier date.
How to use
- Enter the start date in YYYY-MM-DD format.
- Enter the number of days to subtract.
- Read the earlier date and its weekday.
Examples
- Thirty days earlier:
2026-07-20 - 30 days = 2026-06-20 - Across a month start:
2026-03-01 - 1 day = 2026-02-28 - One week back:
2026-01-08 - 7 days = 2026-01-01
FAQ

- Does it cross month and year boundaries?
