Find out which quarter of the year a date falls in, both by the calendar and by a fiscal year you set. Enter a date, and optionally the month your fiscal year starts, to see the quarter number and the exact start and end dates of that quarter. Useful for reporting, budgeting, and planning around quarterly deadlines.

How this is calculated

The calendar quarter is the month grouped into Jan to Mar, Apr to Jun, Jul to Sep, and Oct to Dec, computed as the floor of (month minus 1) divided by 3, plus one. The fiscal quarter counts whole months from your chosen fiscal start month, so a fiscal year starting in April puts April in fiscal Q1. Quarter start and end dates are read from the standard calendar.

How to use

  1. Enter a date in YYYY-MM-DD format.
  2. Set your fiscal start month if your fiscal year does not start in January.
  3. Read the calendar quarter, fiscal quarter, and the quarter start and end dates.

Examples

  • Mid-year: 2026-07-28 is calendar Q3
  • April fiscal year: 2026-04-01 with fiscal start 4 is fiscal Q1
  • Year end: 2026-11-20 is calendar Q4

FAQ

What months are in each calendar quarter?
Q1 is January through March, Q2 is April through June, Q3 is July through September, and Q4 is October through December. This is the standard calendar quarter split used in most reporting.
How does the fiscal quarter work?
Set the month your fiscal year begins. The tool then counts quarters from that month, so if your fiscal year starts in April, then April to June is fiscal Q1, July to September is Q2, and so on.
