How this is calculated
Egg retrieval is treated as the day of conception, and a full-term pregnancy is 266 days from conception, matching the 280-day LMP figure minus the usual 14 days to ovulation. For an embryo transfer, the embryo is already 3 or 5 days old, so conception is the transfer date minus the embryo age. The LMP-equivalent date is the due date minus 280 days (Naegele rule).

- Why is an IVF due date more accurate?
- In a natural pregnancy the conception date is estimated. With IVF the fertilization and transfer dates are known exactly, so the due date is calculated from a fixed point rather than an estimate.
- What is the difference between a 3-day and 5-day transfer?
- A 5-day embryo (blastocyst) is two days further along than a 3-day embryo, so its due date is two days earlier for the same transfer date. The calculator handles both.
- Why does it show a last-period date?
- Providers and pregnancy apps often track gestational age from the last menstrual period. The LMP-equivalent date lets you use standard week-by-week tools even though there was no natural last period.
