How this is calculated

Uses the ACSM MET formula: calories per minute equals MET times 3.5 times body weight in kilograms divided by 200, then multiplied by the number of minutes. MET values come from the Compendium of Physical Activities.

How are calories burned calculated?
This uses the ACSM MET formula. Calories per minute equal the activity MET value times 3.5 times your body weight in kilograms divided by 200, and the total is that figure times the number of minutes.
What is a MET?
A MET, or metabolic equivalent of task, measures activity intensity relative to sitting still. Walking is around 3.5 METs, moderate cycling around 8, and running at 6 mph close to 9.8.
Is the result exact?
It is an estimate. Real calorie burn varies with fitness, age, terrain, and effort, so treat the number as a useful comparison between activities rather than a precise count.
