This calculator turns your gross annual salary into take-home pay for a single paycheck, broken out into federal income tax, FICA, and net amount. Use it when you change jobs, negotiate a salary, or switch pay schedules and want to know what actually lands in your bank account each period. It also shows your net pay for the full year.

How this is calculated

It applies the 2024 federal tax brackets to your salary after the standard deduction for your filing status, adds FICA (6.2% Social Security up to the $168,600 wage base plus 1.45% Medicare), subtracts both from gross, then divides each total by the number of pay periods you choose.

How to use

  1. Enter your gross annual salary.
  2. Choose your filing status and how many pay periods you have each year.
  3. Read the gross, federal tax, FICA, and net amounts per paycheck.

Examples

  • $80k single, biweekly: gross 3076.92 → net 2478.42 per check
  • Annual net: $80k single → 64439 take-home for the year

FAQ

What taxes does this paycheck calculator include?
It estimates 2024 US federal income tax (after the standard deduction) and FICA, Social Security and Medicare. It does not include any state or local income tax.
Why is my real paycheck different?
This is federal and FICA only. It excludes state and local taxes, 401(k) and other pre-tax deductions, health premiums, and employer-specific withholding. Treat it as an estimate, not tax advice.
How are the per-paycheck amounts calculated?
Annual federal tax and FICA are computed on your salary, then each is divided by the number of pay periods you select. Net per check is your annual take-home divided the same way.
