Count the minutes between two clock times, such as a start and end time on a shift. Turn on the overnight option when the end time is on the next day, like a shift that runs past midnight. Enter both times and read the gap in minutes and in hours and minutes.
How this is calculated
Each time is read as minutes past midnight, then the start is subtracted from the end. With the overnight option on, a wrap of 1,440 minutes (24 hours) is added when the end falls on the next day, so 23:00 to 01:00 counts as 120 minutes.
How to use
- Enter the start time in 24-hour HH:MM form.
- Enter the end time in 24-hour HH:MM form.
- Turn on the overnight option if the end time is on the next day, then read the result.

- How do I count minutes across midnight?
- Turn on the overnight option. The tool then adds a full day so an end time earlier than the start is treated as the next day.
- Why do I get an error when the end is before the start?
- Without the overnight option, an end time earlier than the start has no valid same-day gap, so the tool asks you to check the times or enable overnight.
