How this is calculated
The whole-month count is anchored on the earlier date, capping the day to the length of the target month the way standard date libraries do, so a Jan 31 start lands on the last day of the shorter month. The leftover days are then counted from that anchor to the later date, and the total-days figure is the plain calendar day count between the two dates.
